Equilateral, Isosceles and Scalene

There are three special names given to triangles that tell how many sides (or angles) are equal.There can be\u00a03<\/strong>,\u00a02<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0no<\/strong>\u00a0equal sides\/angles:

Equilateral Triangle

Isosceles Triangle

Perimeter
\n<\/h2>\n

The perimeter is the distance around the edge of the triangle: just add up the three sides:<\/p>\n

Area

  • “b” is the distance along the base\n<\/li>\n
  • “h” is the height (measured at right angles to the base)\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \nThe formula works for all triangles.
    \nNote: a simpler way of writing the formula is\u00a0bh\/2<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Example: What is the area of this triangle?

    Imagine you “doubled” the triangle (flip it around one of the upper edges) to make a square-like shape (a\u00a0parallelogram)\u00a0which can be changed to a simple\u00a0rectangle:
