This means the distance round its edges.<br \/>\n<strong>Examples<br \/>\n<\/strong>1. The length of a rectangular room is 5m and the width is 4m. find the perimeter of the room<br \/>\nSolution<br \/>\nThe length of the room = 5m<br \/>\nThe width of the room = 4m<br \/>\nPerimeter = 2(l+w)<br \/>\nPerimeter = 2(5+4)<br \/>\nPerimeter = 2(9)= 2&#215;9= <strong>18m<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The perimeter of a square is 2580cm.  find the length of the square in meter.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Solution:<br \/>\nP= 2580cm = 25.8m<br \/>\nP= 4 x length = 4l<br \/>\nL = 25.8\/4<br \/>\nL = 6.45m<br \/>\nTherefore, the length of the square = 6.45m<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Calculate the perimeter of a triangle with dimensions 4.2m, 3.6m and 5.7m.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Solution:<br \/>\nPerimeter = (4.2 + 3.6 + 5.7) meters<br \/>\nPerimeter <strong>= 13.5m<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A parallelogram has sides measuring 200mm by 150mm. what would be the length of the side of a square having the same perimeter?\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Solution<br \/>\nLength of  parallelogram = 200mm<br \/>\nThe width of the parallelogram = 150mm<br \/>\nPerimeter = 2( L + w)<br \/>\nPerimeter = 2(200 + 150) mm<br \/>\nPerimeter = 2 x 350 = 700mm<br \/>\nBut<br \/>\nPerimeter of the square = 4 x length = 4L<br \/>\n4L = 700mm<br \/>\nDivide both sides by the coefficient of l<br \/>\nL = 700\/4 = 175<br \/>\nTherefore length of the square = <strong>175mm<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Calculate the perimeter of a circle of diameter 14cm.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>NOTE: The perimeter of a circle is called circumference and the diameter (D) is twice the radius (r). thus D = 2r<br \/>\nSolution:<br \/>\nMethod 1: circumference = \u03c0d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tC = 22\/7 x 14<br \/>\nC = <strong>44cm<br \/>\n<\/strong>Method 2:<br \/>\nR = D\/2 = 14\/2 = 7cm<br \/>\nC = 2 x 22\/7 x 7<br \/>\nC= 44cm<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>AREA:<\/strong> Area of shapes is the measure of amount of surface it covers or occupies.<br \/>\nExamples :<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Calculate the area of rectangular room with dimension 250cm by 200cm.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Solution:<br \/>\n                 A = (250 x 200) square cm<br \/>\n                A =50 000 cm square.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Find the area of a square of sides 14cm.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Solution:<br \/>\n                 A = 14 x 14<br \/>\n                A = 196 cm square<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Evaluate the area of a parallelogram with base 8cm and height 9cm.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Solution:<\/p>\n<p>\t\tA = 8 X 9<br \/>\nA = 72 cm square<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Calculate the area of a trapezium with parallel sides 10cm and 18cm and height 12cm.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Solution:<br \/>\n Area =<br \/>\nArea = \u00bd (10 + 18) x 12<br \/>\nArea = \u00bd (28) x 12<br \/>\nArea = 14 x 12<br \/>\nArea = 168 cm square.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Do these<br \/>\n<\/strong>Exercise 18.2 pg 198 No (2, 3,4 &amp; 5)<br \/>\nExercise 18.3 pg 200 No (2, 3, 4 &amp; 5)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong> Assignment<br \/>\n<\/strong>Exercise 18.6 pg 209 No (2, 4, 5,9 &amp; 10)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WEEK 3.
