\n\u00a0FUNCTIONS OF A FARM MANAGER
\n<\/strong>The functions of a farm manager can be grouped into five major headings: (a) Organisation (b) Administration (c) Production (d) Marketing and (e) Evaluation.
\n(a)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Organisation
\n<\/strong>(i)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The farm manager secures suitable land for farming.
\n(ii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He determines what to produce.
\n(iii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He determines the scale of production.
\n(iv)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He procures loan or capital for farming.
\n(v)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 recruits or employs labour or workers for the farm.
\n(vi)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He decides on which enterprise(s) to undertake, given the available resources, e.g. fish farming, rice production, etc.

\n\t\t(i)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A farm manager supervises the work on the farm.
\n(ii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He arranges work roasters.
\n(iii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He directs staff on day-to-day activities.
\n(iv)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He makes arrangement for staff welfare.
\n(v)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He rewards or disciplines staff according to their performance.
\n(vi)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He organizes the training of manpower in the farm.
\n(vii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He maintains good labour relations to avoid the disruption of farm activities.
\n(viii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He acquaints himself with government agricultural policies with respect to opportunities and constraints they pose on the farm.

\n\t\t(i)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A farm manager is responsible for the purchase and use of farm inputs.
\n(ii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He ensures the health of animals\/crops on the farm.
\n(iii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He makes arrangement for general security of the farm.
\n(iv)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He ensures the adequate supply of feeds.
\n(v)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He adheres to modern farming techniques.
\n(vi)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He avoids waste by efficient use and maintenance of farm resources.
