Data can be something simple and seemingly random and useless until it is organised.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>TYPES OF DATA<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div>Qualitative data  i.e descriptive information\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Quantitative data  i.e  numeric information\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>SUBDIVISION OF QUANTITATIVE DATA<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div>Continuous data: this can take any value. It is also known as measured data. It can take value within a range e.g  0-99, 10-20 etc.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Discrete data: this type of data is whole in nature. It is not continuous. It takes a whole numbers and also called Counted data.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>FORMS OF DATA<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div>Numeric  i. e  0-9\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Letters  i.e  a-z or A-Z\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Symbols  e.g   + , _ , * , % , = , &lt;, &gt;, etc\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>EXAMPLES OF DATA<br \/>\n<\/strong>Numbers, name of thing, place or animal, words, measurements, observations, descriptions of things etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>SOURCES OF DATA<br \/>\n<\/strong>Data can come from different sources depending on the importance of the data. The following are sources of data: television, internet, articles, government documents and public records, newspaper, textbooks, biographies.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>EVALUATION<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div>Define data.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Explain the two types of data.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Mention any five sources of data.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>INFORMATION<br \/>\n<\/strong>This refers to data that have been converted into a more meaningful and useful form.<br \/>\nIt refers to a processed data that is meaningful to the user.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>EXAMPLES OF INFORMATION<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div>Student ID card\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Weather reports\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Student&#8217;s report card\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>International passport\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Utility bills e.g PHCN bills, Water bills\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>SOURCES OF INFORMATION<br \/>\n<\/strong>Internet, Database, Magazine\/ Newspaper, Census board, Documents, Observation etc<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD INFORMATION<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div>Relevance:  it must be relevant and good enough for its purpose.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Reliability: it must come from a reliable source.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Accuracy:  it must be an end product of processed data. That is, it must be error-free.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Availability:  it must be available and communicated to the user as at when it is needed.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Suitability: it must be expressed in the form the user of the information can understand it and of suitable for its purpose.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>DATA HANDLING<br \/>\n<\/strong>This the process of ensuring that research data is stored, archived or disposed off in a safe and secure manner during and after the conclusion of a research project.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>WAYS OF HANDLING DATA<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Electronic methods:<\/strong> Data can be handled electronically ensures data integrity. It includes personal digital assistants (PDA), storage media, CD\/DVD, MEMORY CARDS etc.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Non-Electronic methods<\/strong>:  This method includes paper files, journals and laboratory notebooks.
