For self development<br \/>\n<\/strong>-They serve as food  for growth and development<br \/>\n-Dairy products are rich in protein for the replacement of worn-out tissues<br \/>\n-Bones and horns of animals are used in making furniture<br \/>\n-They are sources of drugs for treating various health problems<br \/>\n<strong>2.For social development<br \/>\n<\/strong>-Pulp from the trees are used for print media<br \/>\n-Hides and skins are used by leather industries form making shoes, bags,rug ,carpets and cloths<br \/>\n-Flowers are used for aesthetic purpose in beautification of homes and major cities.<br \/>\n<strong>WEEK3\u2014Resources from non-living things (solid material)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Minerals are naturally occurring substances in the soil. Such minerals are natural endowment to particular communities. The mineral resources may exist in  solid, liquid or in gaseous forms. Example of mineral resources are petroleum,limestone,gold,coal e.tc.Example of solid mineral in Nigeria are gold, limestone,coal,tin ore, columbite,iron ore, diamond e.t.c.These solid minerals cannot be used in the form in which they are found when they are dug out of the soil.They need to be refined by a process of refining which usually take place in factories.<br \/>\n<strong>Characteristics of solid minerals<br \/>\n<\/strong>-Diamond is lustrous and is the hardest solid mineral.<br \/>\n-Gold is lustrous when refined<br \/>\n-Coal ore is black<br \/>\n-Marble is milky<br \/>\n-Iron is grey\/brown in colour.<br \/>\n<strong>Importance of solid minerals<br \/>\n<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>Iron<\/strong> is used the construction of bridges and building.<br \/>\n-Iron is used for making farm implement.<br \/>\n-Iron can be used for making various motor parts.<br \/>\n<strong>-Gold, silver and diamond <\/strong>are used in making jelwery such as earring, necklaces, medals and trophies.<br \/>\n-The wealth of a nation in foreign reserve can be quantified in gold value.<br \/>\n<strong>Uses of coal<br \/>\n<\/strong>-It is used for cooking<br \/>\n-It is  in making material like chemical, paints and dyes.<br \/>\n-It is used to generate energy used to move train or generate electricity<strong><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/strong><strong>Clay<br \/>\n<\/strong>-It is used in pottery industries for making plates, jugs  and mugs.<br \/>\n-Combination of clay with limestone can be used for making chalk and cement.<br \/>\n<strong>Limestone<br \/>\n<\/strong>-It is the major material in cement making.<br \/>\n-It is used in the hospital as plaster of Paris to straighten an injury to the bone.<br \/>\n<strong>More importance<br \/>\n<\/strong>-For employment opportunities<br \/>\n-For industrial development<br \/>\n-For agricultural development<br \/>\n-For transportation development<br \/>\n<strong>ASSIGNMENTS<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>1.<\/strong>Which of these solid minerals is used  in the  pottery industries?
