This is also called <strong><em>food sanitation.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Food hygiene is very important to health. This is because harmful bacteria can grow in food until the food becomes unsafe to eat.  These bacteria are tiny living things that multiply rapidly. They can be seen only with a microscope.  They spread food-borne diseases namely <strong><em>salmonella poisoning<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>botulism.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n\u00a0<strong>GUIDELINES AND RULES FOR FOOD HYGIENE<br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Wash cooking utensils, cutting boards and other surfaces thoroughly every time you prepare food.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Wash fresh fruits and vegetables thoroughly.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Wash the tops of cans such as canned milk, tomatoes, salad cream, corned beef etc before opening them.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Keep pets such as pussy cats and dogs out  of the kitchen\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Use clean plate for cooked food, never use the same plate that held the raw food.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Wash your hands thoroughly before working with foods and after using the toilet\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Use a tissue paper when you must sneeze or cough and turn away from the food, then wash your hands.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Cover and store leftover food in the refrigerator\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Cover your hair when in the kitchen so as to keep the hair out of the food.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>If insecticide is used to kill pests, do not allow it to come in contact with food or surfaces, utensils or contain that will touch food.\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PREPARATION OF SIMPLE DRINK AND SNACK<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong><em>Pineapple drink<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Recipe<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00bc of medium sized pineapple<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>1 tsp lime juice (if desired)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Syrup to taste<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>280ml clean cold water<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Procedure<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Wash the whole pineapple.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Cut off required size<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Peel and grate the pineapple<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Add water to the grated pineapple, pass through a clean strainer<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Add lime juice, syrup and water. Mix properly<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Chill and serve.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Preparation of sugar syrup<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>80g of granulated sugar<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>1 cup of water<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Procedure<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Place the sugar in clean sauce pan<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Add water<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Bring the mixture to boil<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Reduce the heat and simmer until the syrup is slightly thick<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Leave to cool.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Preparation of simple snack (chips)<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong><em>Chips can be prepared from green plantain, yam, potatoes e.t.c.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>2 fingers green plantain<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>50ml. Vegetable oil<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Salt to taste.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Procedure<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Wash and peel plantain<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Slice thinly<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Season slightly with salt<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Fry in deep oil until it is crisp and light brown<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong><em>Drain in a clean basket or kitchen paper.
