The lips are rounded while the jaw is in a &#8220;close&#8221; position. This vowel has the following spelling symbols.<br \/>\n&#8220;O&#8221; as in woman<br \/>\n&#8220;OO&#8221; as in foot<br \/>\n&#8220;OU&#8221; as in could<br \/>\n&#8220;U&#8221; as in put.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\/U:\/ : The long \/U:\/ is articulated with the back of the tongue raised to a height just below the close &#8220;position while the lips are rounded. If you pronounce &#8220;WOO&#8221;, the oral cavity become narrow as the lips are rounded while the back of the tongue is raised. It is not difficult to pronounce this vowel because many Nigerian languages have a vowel that can be approximated to the English \/U:\/. However, it is not easy to identify the spelling symbols for the long \/U:\/ because the vowel has many spelling symbols.
